Pass the Spatula & Pass the Mic: A Day of Culinary Chaos and Karaoke Fun!
We started the morning like all great sagas begin: with breakfast (naturally) and some genuinely fantastic lessons. But as good as the lessons were, the real test of our wit, patience, and survival skills was waiting just around the corner.
Right after lunch, the ultimate plot twist happened: the Juniors and Seniors were mixed together into elite cooking squads. Our mission? Represent our home countries by cooking an authentic international dish. We split into designated cooking groups, each representing a different country, and descended upon the local grocery store. Imagine 50+ campers storming the aisles on a high-stakes mission to find hyper-specific international ingredients. Despite a few bewildered looks from local shoppers, every group successfully checked out with their culinary treasures intact.
Back at camp, the real magic began. Each country’s kitchen was run by authentic Head Chefs (our very own campers from those countries!). They took charge and taught each crew of enthusiastic novices how to cook traditional dishes from scratch without setting off any smoke alarms.
Once the chopping was done and the timer dinned, every group created vibrant poster presentations to showcase their dish, its history, and the story behind each flavor profile.
Then came the best part: THE EATING.
We traveled around the entire globe in just one dinner sitting. Plates were piled high with authentic flavors, spices, and incredible dishes from every corner of the world. The verdict? 10/10, no notes, standard restaurants could never compete.
Just when we thought our stomachs couldn't hold any more joy (or food), it was time for karaoke. Did we sound like Grammy award-winning vocalists? Absolutely not. Did we sing at the top of our lungs, cheer on our friends and laugh as we belted out classics like Don’t Stop Belivin’? 100% yes. From Arethra Franklin to iconic pop anthems like Beauty and the Beat, we ended the night on the highest, loudest, note possible.
From the grocery aisles to the microphone, today was a reminder of why Wynchemna is so special. We came as students from different corners of the map, and we ended the day as one big, well-fed, loud-singing family.
