When Life Gives You Loose Moose: Shopping & Improv

We started the day with our usual morning lessons, where the main goal was equipping students with practical vocabulary and phrases. Of course, the real test came immediately after lunch when we unleashed the group on CF Chinook Centre, one of Calgary’s largest malls. Armed with enthusiasm, pocket money, and with new friends, campers spent the afternoon hunting for clothes, souvenirs, and snacks. Students had to put their English to work in real time whether asking store staff for specific sizes, deciphering receipt totals, or attempting to order bubble tea!

Once everyone’s shopping bags were sufficiently heavy, we headed to the University of Calgary campus for dinner. Over a good meal, campers swapped stories about their best finds, compared purchases, and caught their breath.

We wrapped up the day with an interactive improv workshop hosted by an actor from Loose Moose Theatre. Instead of sitting through a lecture on theater, the students were thrown straight into fast-paced improv games. The main rules? Listen fast, be energetic, and always say "Yes, and..." to whatever weird scenario your partner throws at you. It was a hilarious exercise in quick thinking, and the room was full of laughter as campers completely embraced the chaos, supported each other, and realized that making mistakes on stage is actually half the fun.

It was a full, high-energy day of practical learning, and we’re pretty sure everyone is going to sleep well tonight.
