From Waterfalls to Rockslides: A Day of Nonstop Adventure
From Waterfalls to Rockslides: A Day of Nonstop Adventure
Today was one for the books! Our summer camp group set out bright and early on an action-packed day full of fun, food, and unforgettable experiences.
Our first stop was Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, a UNESCO World Heritage Site steeped in Indigenous history and culture. Students explored the interpretive center and learned about the traditional hunting practices of the Plains people. Even more enriching, our amazing teachers shared their knowledge and helped bring the stories to life, giving everyone a deeper appreciation of the rich cultural heritage behind this historic site. It was a powerful and meaningful start to the day.
After all that learning, we had worked up quite the appetite—and luckily, we had amazing sandwiches ready to fuel us up for the next adventure!
Next, we made our way to Lundbreck Falls, where the natural beauty was matched only by the adventurous spirit of our enthusiastic students. Everyone jumped into the river to cool off, laughing and splashing in the crisp glacier water. A few brave souls even swam right up to the base of the waterfall! Their courage was inspiring, and the energy was contagious.
With spirits high, we traveled to the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre. Our resilient crew scrambled up the massive boulders like mountain goats, exploring the rugged terrain left behind by the 1903 rockslide. It was both a physical challenge and a fascinating window into the past.
To wrap up the day, we headed to Chain Lakes Provincial Park for a well-earned BBQ supper, featuring juicy grilled burgers and a fresh Caesar salad loaded with crunchy romaine, creamy dressing, and plenty of parmesan. While the food was being prepared, students got the chance to unwind and enjoy whatever activity they liked—frisbee, football, soccer, volleyball, or the playground. The lakeside setting, laughter, and teamwork made for a perfect ending.
It was the perfect blend of learning, nature, adventure, and connection—and we can't wait for more fun ahead!
