PAPER CLIP GAME!!!

After finishing three exciting and engaging English classes in the morning, our group was full of energy and ready for the afternoon activities. Everyone had been working hard on their reading, writing, and speaking skills, and it was great to see so much progress and participation from all the students. There was a lot of laughter, learning, and teamwork throughout the lessons.

Once the classes were over, it was time for something a little different. We kicked off the afternoon with the paperclip game; where students try to trade a small paperclip for something more valuable. It was great way to meet and talk with local Calgarians. Even though the weather was extremely hot, the heat did not stop anyone from putting in their best effort. The three breakfast groups each had their own strategies and enthusiasm as they walked around trying to trade their paperclips with people in the neighborhood. Some teams managed to get impressive items, and there was a lot of excitement and curiosity as everyone compared their final trades. The teams ended with 1. Silverware butter knives. 2. A 1988 Toronto Blue Jays special baseball and an art collection book.

Later in the day, we headed to the grocery store. Each group planned their own meal and worked together to shop for the ingredients they needed. It was a great chance for students to use English in a real-life setting, asking questions, reading labels, and making decisions together. Back at our accommodation, the kitchen came alive with the sounds and smells of cooking. The students prepared their dinners with care, helping one another and sharing cooking tips. Some groups made pasta, others prepared stir-fry or sandwiches, and everyone seemed proud of what they created.

To end the day on a relaxing note, we gathered together for an evening of board games. Laughter filled the room as students played classics like Uno, Apples to Apples, and Monopoly. It was the perfect way to unwind and enjoy each other’s company after a full day of learning, teamwork, and creativity.

Overall, it was another memorable day filled with learning, laughter, and lots of new experiences. We are so proud of how much the students have grown, both in their English skills and in their confidence.
