Seven Days in Kananaskis: Nature, Laughter, and Unforgettable Memories

Our five-day camping trip to the Kananaskis region turned into a full seven-day adventure we’ll never forget. From cozy tents to misty mountain peaks, every day brought new experiences, delicious meals, and plenty of laughs with friends.

Day 1: We arrived at our campsite and got to work unloading the truck. Spirits were high as we set up our tents and started to settle into the wilderness. For dinner, we had tasty tacos that hit the spot after a long day of travel. As the sun dipped behind the trees, we gathered around a giant bonfire. The flames kept us warm, and the crackling sounds added to the peacefulness of the night.

Day 2: The day began with a small hiccup—we lost the car keys. But instead of stressing, we took a peaceful morning walk to Elbow Lake. Later, we moved our tents to a new spot deeper in the forest, surrounded by trees and the sounds of nature. Lunch was classic campfire sausages, and the rest of the afternoon was filled with badminton, soccer, and simply enjoying each other’s company in the fresh mountain air.

Day 3: We woke to rain tapping gently on our tents, which somehow made them feel even cozier. Deciding to change plans, we packed up and headed to Banff National Park. Once we arrived, we had warm ramen for lunch and then split off for some afternoon fun. Some of us went shopping for souvenirs for family and friends, while others soaked in the warm waters of the Banff hot springs. We finished the day with Japanese Edo, where we devoured chicken and beef rice bowls.

Day 4: It was hiking day, and we took on the trail to Chester Lake. The views were stunning—crystal blue water, fresh alpine air, and wind chimes hanging in the trees that seemed to sing to us. At the top, we enjoyed sandwiches packed with meat, veggies, and cheese while gazing out over the majestic landscape.

Day 5: We rose early for a long scenic drive through the Rockies. Along the way, we spotted bighorn sheep, moose, and elk on the way to the Columbia Icefields. We also went horseback riding at Lake Louise, which felt like something out of a movie. Lunch was Starbucks sandwiches on the go, and in the evening, we feasted on pizza back at camp before lighting another big bonfire to close out the day.

Day 6: We loaded the truck again, this time with inflatable boats and paddle boards, and made our way to the lake. The water was freezing, but that didn’t stop us from jumping in and having the time of our lives. We relaxed on the shore, played volleyball, and wandered through the forest looking for frogs and birds. Lunch was simple and delicious—hotdogs cooked over the fire.

Day 7: The final day was Olympic Game Day. The biggest Wynchemna 2025 volleyball tournament took place, with eight exciting rounds of intense matches. We followed that with a three-legged race that had everyone falling over with laughter. Snacks were passed around all afternoon, and then we launched into a massive water gun fight that lasted three whole hours. The day ended with a huge celebratory dinner of juicy burgers and sweet honey ham.

Each day brought us closer together as we unplugged, explored, and embraced everything the mountains had to offer. Whether it was eating by the fire, climbing peaks, or laughing during team games, this trip gave us moments we’ll carry with us for years to come.
