Dinosaurs, Badlands & Birthday Celebrations: Wynchemna Takes on Drumheller!

Today, Wynchemna went prehistoric!

We kicked off the day with some dinosaur-themed English lessons, getting everyone ready for a day filled with fossils, dinosaurs, and some of Alberta’s most incredible landscapes. After our lessons, we loaded up the buses and set our sights on Drumheller!

Our first stop was Horseshoe Canyon, where students got their first taste of the famous Alberta Badlands. We headed out for a hike through the canyon, taking in the amazing landscape and getting plenty of photos along the way. It’s not every day you get to explore a place that looks like it belongs on another planet!

Then it was time for the main event: the Royal Tyrrell Museum! With massive dinosaur skeletons, fascinating fossils, and enough prehistoric creatures to make any paleontologist jealous, the students had an incredible time exploring the museum. After learning about the dinosaurs that once roamed Alberta, everyone was definitely ready for some food.

Thankfully, dinner was waiting for us at the park! Students enjoyed freshly cooked hamburgers, salad, and a whole plethora of delicious food. After a long day of hiking and exploring, it disappeared pretty quickly!

With full stomachs and plenty of energy restored, we headed outside for some evening sports. Soccer, volleyball, and frisbee turned the park into our own little Wynchemna sports arena, with students battling it out, laughing, and having a great time together.

But there was one more special celebration to finish the day. We got to wish Eason a very happy 16th birthday! 🎉 He received a birthday gift, and of course, no birthday at Wynchemna would be complete without cake. The cake was shared with everyone, making it a perfect way to celebrate together.

From dinosaur lessons to badland hikes, world-class fossils, hamburgers, sports, and a birthday celebration, Drumheller gave us a little bit of everything today.

A prehistoric adventure, a delicious dinner, and a birthday party all in one day? Not bad for a Tuesday at Wynchemna!
