From Paper Clips to Prizes: A Day of Trading, Teamwork, and Tasty Dinners
Another exciting day at Wynchemna was packed with learning, laughter, and a healthy dose of adventure!
Our morning began with two fantastic English lessons. The first focused on one of Canada's greatest heroes, Terry Fox. Students learned about his incredible Marathon of Hope, his determination to make a difference, and why his story continues to inspire Canadians every year.
Our second lesson took a much more theatrical turn as we explored the importance of good manners. Students practiced polite expressions and respectful behaviour before putting their new skills to the test in hilarious skits. The highlight? Acting out proper royal etiquette while meeting a king! There were plenty of bows, curtsies, and laughs as everyone tried their best to impress "His Majesty."
After enjoying another delicious lunch on campus, it was time for one of our favourite Wynchemna traditions—the famous Paper Clip Challenge! Armed with nothing but a single paper clip and plenty of confidence, students headed into a beautiful Calgary neighbourhood to trade up with friendly local residents. It was wonderful to see everyone using their English skills while meeting kind Calgarians who were happy to join in the fun. Both teams returned with some incredible treasures, including some very stylish hats that quickly became the envy of camp. After careful judging, Teacher Cam and his team claimed this round's victory—but only by the slimmest of margins!
The adventure continued with a trip to Safeway, where students worked together to shop for ingredients before heading back to camp to prepare dinner. One group whipped up delicious homemade crêpes, while the other served a hearty meal of chicken and potatoes. Teamwork was on full display in the kitchen, and the results were absolutely delicious!
We wrapped up the evening with board games, plenty of friendly competition, and a dedicated cleaning session as everyone pitched in to prepare camp for the arrival of our newest students tomorrow.
Today was another perfect example of what makes Wynchemna so special: learning English, building confidence, making new friends, and creating unforgettable memories—all while having an incredible amount of fun!
