Rivers, Lakes, and Buffalo Jump!
Today was one of those perfect camp days where everything just clicked – beautiful weather, breathtaking sights, and non-stop adventure from sunrise to sunset.
We kicked things off with a quick and energizing breakfast to fuel up for the packed day ahead. Spirits were high as we loaded up the bus and hit the road for our first stop: Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump. It was an incredible opportunity for everyone to connect with the deep Indigenous history of the area. The campers explored the interpretive center and stood in awe at the dramatic cliffside, imagining what life was like centuries ago.
After soaking up some history and panoramic views, we had a relaxing lunch in the open air, surrounded by the beauty of southern Alberta’s foothills.
Next up: a visit to the serene Crowsnest River. Whether campers chose to dip their toes in, skip rocks, or just relax along the banks, it was a peaceful and scenic stop that gave everyone a chance to catch their breath and take in nature.
From there, we headed to Frank Slide, where the scale and story of the 1903 rockslide left everyone stunned. The campers were fascinated by the tales of the buried town beneath the boulders and had some great questions about the science and history behind it all.
We ended our day at the stunning Chain Lake, just in time for an epic barbecue dinner. The burgers and hot dogs were a hit, and once everyone had eaten their fill, it was time for sports! Campers played soccer, threw frisbees, and cheered each other on in impromptu games until the sun dipped behind the hills.
As the sky turned golden and the lake reflected the fading light, we all felt that special kind of tired – the good kind, that only comes after a day packed with adventure, laughter, and memories.
