S'more than just a trip, camping in the Rocky Mountains

7-Day Canadian Camping Trip Recap

Our 7-day camping adventure through the heart of Alberta was nothing short of unforgettable, a perfect blend of nature, challenge, laughter, and friendship. Here's a look back at a week full of memories that we’ll be talking about for years to come:

Day 1 – Arrival & Games Night

We kicked off our journey by arriving at the campsite and setting up our tents, for many, a first-time experience. After getting settled, we shared our first dinner together and broke the ice with some fun group games. The excitement was already in the air, and the energy was high.

Day 2 – Hiking, Rain, and S’mores

Day two brought adventure and a little bit of surprise. We set off on a scenic hike, which turned into an unexpected rainstorm. Soaked but smiling, a few brave souls even took a chilly dip in the lake. Lunch at the trail's end was a highlight,  the view was breathtaking and the sandwich buffet hit the spot. That evening, students showed off their cooking skills before we gathered around the fire for s’mores,  a first for many, under the stars.

Day 3 – Lake Day & Wild Weather

After a delicious French toast breakfast made by the students, we loaded up our paddle boards and kayaks for a full lake day. From water sports to sunshine to surprise hail, mountain weather definitely kept us on our toes. Some students spent the whole afternoon in the water while others stayed dry helping with lunch or getting a laugh watching their friends fall off their paddle boards into the lake.  Back at camp, we played volleyball and baseball, soaking up every bit of fun.

Day 4 – Olympic Day & River Plunge

A beautiful day set the stage for our camp Olympics. Students rotated through epic games: soccer, bocce, badminton, can jam, ping pong, tightrope, axe throwing, and a wild water fight finale ending in a freezing river plunge. Spirits were high, competition was fierce, and teamwork shone through. Our tent group the Beavers took gold after having best attitude, cheering all day, even encouraging other teams, Another cozy night around the fire  ended the night. By this day, the students handled the fire like professionals. Still learning new skills while having fun.

Day 5 – Capture the Flag & Wildlife Encounters

We started the day with an intense, all-in game of capture the flag,  teachers and students sprinting through bushes and rivers alike. Later, groups split up for mountain biking or hiking. The bikers spotted a grizzly bear across the river! While hikers encountered deer. And, on the bus, we encountered many mountain goats. After a full day, we cooked dinner together and closed the evening with more sports — volleyball remained a constant favourite.

Day 6 – Horses, Glaciers & a Birthday

This day was one for the books. One group went horseback riding and explored stunning Lake Louise, while the other group visited the Columbia Icefields. Both returned buzzing with stories. On the way back, we stopped for pizza in a park and celebrated Ian’s 22nd birthday in style. That night’s fire was extra special, with music, marshmallows, and so much laughter.

Day 7 – Banff & Final Campfire

Our last full day was spent exploring the beautiful town of Banff. After lunch in a park, students enjoyed some free time to explore and shop. In the evening, we regrouped for dinner and ended the trip with a legendary final campfire roasting hotdogs. We danced, sang, and celebrated everything we experienced — completely in love with Canada and each other’s company.

Day 8 – Homeward Bound & Graduation Prep

We packed up early and headed back to Calgary, finally reunited with hot showers! The rest of the day was spent preparing for our big graduation and goodbye celebration. It was clear — the camping trip was a highlight of the whole experience.

By the time we left the campsite, everyone had grown closer. Barriers were broken, new friendships formed, and true personalities had the chance to shine. We laughed hard, danced harder, and took in the best that Canada has to offer — from its wild landscapes to its welcoming spirit.

The camping trip wasn’t just about tents and trails — it was about connection, challenge, and celebration. For many campers, it was the defining moment of the entire program.

Here’s to the memories, the magic, and the mountains. 🇨🇦⛺💚
