Day 11 at Wynchemna: International Supper & Karaoke Fun!

Today was bursting with energy, creativity, and cultural pride here at Wynchemna! We kicked things off the way we always do — with a hearty, warm breakfast shared in our breakfast rooms, where morning chats and sleepy smiles start the day on the right foot. Bellies full and brains switched on, it was time for our three daily English lessons.

Our morning classes were packed with variety and full of opportunities for students to speak, think critically, and express themselves. One group dove into ethical dilemmas, tackling challenging situations like “Would you lie to protect a friend?” — the debates got heated (in the best way)! Another class explored past, present, and future technologies, imagining wild inventions and reflecting on how life has changed over the years. Our third group played with homophones (like right/write and pair/pear) through hilarious listening games, followed by an event planning challenge that had students organizing fake parties and festivals using persuasive language. There were plenty of laughs and lots of new vocabulary added to the mix.

After all that thinking, it was time to refuel. Lunch in the dining hall was a delicious treat with options of chicken, lamb, pork, or beef — all served with rice and a mix of colourful veggies. The food gave us just the boost we needed for the exciting afternoon ahead: Grocery Shopping!

Why grocery shopping? Because tonight was the long-awaited International Supper! Each group of students helped plan and prepare a traditional dish from their home country. We took a trip to the store in small groups, armed with shopping lists, recipe ideas, and huge smiles. The kids loved searching for ingredients and translating food terms into English — it was learning in the real world!

Back at Wynchemna, the kitchen came alive with sizzling pans, delicious smells, and proud voices teaching each other how to make something from their culture. The final meal was truly a feast:
🥣 Hot & Sour Soup from Asia,
🥔 Potato Pancakes from Eastern Europe,
🥟 Empanadas from Mexico,
🌭 Currywurst from Germany, and
🍓 Crêpes for dessert from France!

Everyone sat together, shared food, and told stories about what these meals meant to them. Many students said they can’t wait to bring these recipes home and try them with their families.

To finish off the evening? Karaoke Night! The teachers broke the ice with a bold rendition of Katy Perry’s Hot & Cold, and from there, the room exploded with music, cheering, and laughter. Whether students sang solo, sang in groups, or danced backup, everyone joined in.

Our Student of the Day was Jasmine W, who earned the title for her warm smile, positive attitude, and her growing confidence both in class and during sports. We’re so proud of her!

Days like today show how learning goes far beyond the classroom at Wynchemna. We’re building skills, friendships, and unforgettable memories — and we can’t wait for what tomorrow brings!
