Home Runs, Hole in Ones & Ice Runs: A Day in the Life at Wynchemna

There’s something special about summer in Canada—clear blue skies, fresh mountain air, and the perfect mix of learning and adventure. At Wynchemna, our English summer program offers much more than just classroom lessons. Today was the perfect example of how fun and immersive learning can be when combined with sports and exploration.

We kicked off the day with English lessons and lunch. After lunch, it was time to head outdoors—and what better way to enjoy the sunshine than with a few games of baseball? For many of us, it was our first time playing, but that didn’t matter. We split into teams, learned the basics, and quickly got into the swing of things. Whether we were running bases or cheering from the sidelines, it was a great way to bond and build confidence using English in a casual setting.

The excitement didn’t stop there. Next on the agenda was ice skating—at the Olympic Oval, no less! Stepping onto the same ice where world-class athletes have trained was both thrilling and a little intimidating. For beginners, it was a test of balance and courage, but with encouragement from instructors and friends, we were soon gliding (or wobbling) across the ice.

We also headed to a local driving range for a round of golf practice. Swinging a golf club might seem simple, but we quickly learned there’s a real technique to it! Some of us managed solid shots right away, while others took a little more practice—but that’s part of the fun. With instructors guiding us and a relaxed, scenic setting, it was the perfect way to wind down and reflect on the day.

Days like today remind us that learning English doesn’t have to be limited to textbooks and classrooms. At Wynchemna, language comes to life—in every laugh, every game, and every shared moment.
