The Great Calgary Race: Global Maps, Downtown Dashes, and Delicious Eats!

oday was an absolute whirlwind of creativity, urban exploration, and incredible food as our campers took over downtown for the ultimate adventure: The Great Calgary Race.

We kicked off the day with three highly interactive lessons that put our campers’ creativity and teamwork to the test. Each team had to design their very own custom map featuring landmarks and challenges unique to their home countries. To add an extra layer of brilliance, the students researched famous historical quotes and even invented a few inspiring quotes of their own. The room was buzzing with global pride and sharp thinking, setting the perfect tone for the day ahead.

With maps drawn and strategies locked in, it was time for the main event as the campers headed into the heart of downtown Calgary for a fast-paced, high-energy scavenger hunt. This wasn't just about navigating the city—it was about connecting with the community. Along the way, our students met some truly fascinating Calgarians who helped them complete their challenges, including a local author, a veteran soldier, and friendly Calgary Peace Officers! Of course, a race this epic requires serious fuel, so for lunch, we treated everyone to an absolutely amazing Caribbean chicken and rice—yummmmm is an understatement! It gave everyone the perfect second wind to power through the rest of the course.

After a thrilling finish to the race, we celebrated everyone's hard work with a spectacular Indian food feast for dinner, swapping stories and laughing over the best moments from the downtown dash. A massive congratulations goes out to Teacher Will and his amazing, hardworking team for organizing such a flawless, memorable, and high-energy day! The campers showed incredible spirit, cooperation, and grit, and parents, you would be so proud of how your kids represented their countries and conquered Calgary today!
